Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi states, “The impact that ‘Gadar 2’, ‘OMG 2’ and ‘Jailer’ have made is huge and there’s absolutely no doubt about that. But despite that, RARKPK is still doing very well. Everyone thought that because of ‘Gadar 2’, Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ would not do respectable business in North India. But it has emerged as one of the highest grossing Tamil movies in North India. So I feel the beauty of the Indian market is that we are 1.4 billion people and there’s an audience for every kind of film. The good thing about ‘Ghoomer’ is that it has got a respectable showcasing and people want to watch it on the big screen to find out what it is all about. I’m very sure that the audience will think ‘Gadar 2’ is complementary to ‘Ghoomer’, rather than a cannibalising situation. Hence, I’m sure, ‘Ghoomer’ will find its audience and space amidst the big movies.”
At the moment, there are some shows given to ‘Ghoomer’ and they can increase with positive word of mouth. Manoj Desai, Executive Director, Gaiety Galaxy, says, “I have three-four shows of Ghoomer’. I have taken that film too. I have six theatres so I can accommodate many movies and hopefully, if ‘Ghoomer’ works, it will be great for us.”
Trade expert Komal Nahta had tweeted his views about ‘Ghoomer’ and said, “R Balki has made an extremely heartwarming film in ‘Ghoomer’. The sad part is that its release was finalised for 18th August much before anyone had even imagined that ‘Gadar 2’ would rule the box-office the way it is doing and will continue to do for some more weeks. But a good film is a good film.”

Producer and film business expert Girish Johar says that it’s not with ‘Gadar 2’, rather the box office was on fire with ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie’. “Nobody expected Oppenheimer to do 100 crore in the Indian market. But it did. Even ‘RARKPK’ is doing good. The feedback for ‘Ghoomer’ looks quite positive with whatever reviews have come out, and at the end of the day, it will come down to how the audience is reacting to the film. Right now, people are paying and going to watch movies, the trend has started. So, I hope that ‘Ghoomer’ can also capitalise on the upstream at the box office with positive word of mouth and it has a good run. The audiences are thoroughly enjoying their outing with the cinema, and it’s a good time for them to come out, and it should definitely help all the films.”
Rathi also echoes the sentiment, “Gadar 2 and OMG 2 got some kind of a momentum in consumption of movies in the theatres, I really think it will benefit Ghoomer, Dream Girl 2 and the forthcoming films. So, I have no doubts about the fact that ‘Ghoomer’ will stand on its own merit. The kind of reports that are coming out are terrific. And with word of mouth, I have no doubt that it will continue to grow. And with Dream Girl 2 also coming up. I’m very sure that all of these films will co-exist beautifully in cinemas, because all of them complement each other beautifully and cater to very different demographics and psychographics.”
Well, like Komal Nahta said, a good film is a good film and one only hopes that it gives another reason for the industry to be happy. Because like they say, ‘the more the merrier’.
