Trade circuit elated as Gadar 2 and OMG 2 bring a tsunami at the box office | Hindi Movie News

Bollywood seems to have bounced back with the two films Gadar 2 and Oh My God 2 getting a very good response at the box office. Of course, Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani had set the mood of the audience to return to the cinemas which has now been carried forward on the eve of Independence Day.

Exhibitor and distributor of the first instalment of Gadar, Raj Bansal tells ETimes, “It is like a tsunami at the box office, something we have not seen in a long time and it is all organic.

The patriotic fervour has worked in favour of the film and I feel the first day business of Gadar 2 could be about Rs 40 crore.”
Those in the trade say the publicity and marketing of the film has worked in its favour and the re-release of Gadar has generated curiosity amongst the audience. The film has a huge mass appeal and as distributor and exhibitor Sunny Khanna says, “The response to Gadar 2 is outstanding and the B and C class single screen collections are one one-sided. The last time we saw such collections was when Pathaan was released. Gadar 2 has supported B and C centres. And the surprising fact is that the collections are from everywhere at multiplexes also.”
OMG2 which was expected to take a slow start has opened to a two digit figure of Rs 10.25 crore. Khanna says, “The word of mouth of the film is very good and therefore the business is likely to grow further.”
This the one of the best weekends of the year with all the three films, including Jailer, getting good response from the audience.
The producer of Gadar 2, Shariq Patel is thrilled with the kind of response the film has received at the box office. “We are ecstatic with the response we have got. Seeing the crowds thronging to the theatres especially in B and C centres in such large numbers and celebrating it like a festival shows we have done justice to the original film,” he says.
“The major collection has come from the single screens, so we are still counting the numbers. What seemed like a lull after Pathaan has finally been broken. There is a large audience beyond the cities which has come out thronging for Gadar 2. If we create Hindi films for the masses they will lap it up. We need more investment in tier 2 and tier 3 cities in exhibition. Affordable ticket prices and access to all sections of society for cinema entertainment is the need of the hour,” he further adds.
