There have been rumours that director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehrais planning the film’s sequel and fans are quite curious to know the truth.Well, the filmmaker has denied it and infact, has admitted that there can’t ever be a sequel toRang De Basanti.

Mehra said in an interview that what he doesn’t want to repeat whatever he did and said with ‘Rang De Basanti’. The filmmaker further told Bollywood Life, that there are some movies like James Bond or Mission Impossible which demand a sequel, but ‘Rang De Basanti’ was a film about college students who got so inspired by the likes of young revolutionaries who dropped their pens and picked up guns. Thus, they gave up their lives for the country and its people.
The film came from Mehra’s personal life because as a college student, he was the same. He only complained about the system but didn’t jump into the fire and there are many who do the same. He added that people take comfortable jobs and only crib about the system but won’t do anything about it. Hence, ‘Rang De Basanti’ was a very personal film for him because it was something that he couldn’t do. Hence, re-telling the same story is never possible!

Mehra’s last film was ‘Toofan’. He recently celebrated 10 years of ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag‘.
