Raj and DK reveal they wanted Aamir Khan for their debut film, ’99’: ‘We couldn’t even get to him’ | Hindi Movie News

Raj and DK are one of the most bankable filmmakers we have in Bollywood today. They have worked with A-listers like Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Manoj Bajpayee and others.
However, things have not always been the same for the directo duos. In a recent interview with a YouTuber, they revealed how they struggled to meet an A-list actor for their debut film ’99’.

Spilling some beans about the same, Raj Nidimoru said that they wrote99 and went to Aamir Khan first. According to him, when you write something, and think of an ideal scenario, people start questioning you. The director revealed that they didn’t even go to him as they couldn’t even access him.

Elaborating further, Raj added that they always wanted to cast mainstream stars in order to reach larger mainstream audiences. They got a breakthrough when Saif Ali Khan decided to star in and produce their 2013 zombie comedy ‘Go Goa Gone’. According to him, Saif thought it was silliness, but a thoughtful kind of silliness. So he just said, ‘Let’s do it’.

In their earlier interview with Film Companion, the filmmakers said that they agree that streaming is an actor’s medium. But they would also say that only an actor can do a series, not a star who’s not an actor. What they want to do as filmmakers is to give the audience so many people to fall in love with in that show that you don’t know the names of. According to him, audiences are drawn in for something, but these actors are their takeaway.
On the work front, their latest series, ‘Guns & Gulaabs’ is currently streaming on an OTT platform. It stars Rajkummar Rao, Adarsh Gourav, Dulquer Salmaan, Gulshan Devaiah and others.
Raj and DK are also directing ‘Citadel India’ with Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead roles. While it is the first time that they are working with Varun, they have previously worked with Samantha in ‘The Family Man 2′.
