Jungkook’s solo debut number ‘Seven’ faces plagiarism accusations!

BTS member Jungkook debuted his solo number ‘Seven‘ featuring Latto in July and floored fans with his loveable self. Now, over a month later, the song is mired in controversy over plagiarism row.
‘Seven’ has been composed and written by Andrew Watt, Jon Bellion, Henry Walter, Theron Makiel Thomas, and Latto. The music video features Jungkook and actress Han So-hee.
According to reports, Jungkook has been accused of plagiarism by composer Yang Joon-young. According to a Korean news portal, an official related to the release content, confirmed that the major melodies of Jungkook’s ‘Seven’ have been borrowed from Fin.K.L’s ‘Time of Mask’, which has been worked upon by numerous foreign composers.
Fin.K.L’s ‘Time of Mask’ was part of the girl group’s album ‘SPECIAL’ and was composed by Yang Joon-young. The composer has reportedly reached out to ‘Seven’ producer HYBE Labels for a clarification and is awaiting a response from them for the same. HYBE Labels has apparently replied to Yang Joon-young that the issue cannot be resolved currently as their chairman, Bang Si-hyuk is on an overseas business trip to the United States.
Meanwhile, ‘Seven’ continues to charm fans worldwide. It has crossed 400 million streams on Spotify, achieving this feat in just 33 days. Jungkook’s debut solo also took over the top spot on the US Billboard ‘Global 200’ and ‘Global’ (excluding the US) charts for five consecutive weeks.
Currently, BTS is on a break as a few members are busy with their mandatory military service in South Korea, while others are concentrating on their solo projects. However, recently RM confirmed that the band will make a comeback in 2025. During a Weverse live stream RM shared, “I definitely feel that … And what I’m thinking right now is, these days, when I’m doing my solo projects, is, this is just like a vacation to get back to where I was, which was BTS and ARMY. So, all the solo [work] is just a journey, but it is a very important journey for chapter two. It’s a journey to get back home safe, eventually, when we get back and reunite together in 2025.”
