In a statement to ANI, Jaya, who was in her car, said, “I do not want to make a comment on the Prime Minister. I respect the Chair. I just want to say that if we compare all the speeches given by PM Modifrom 2014 till today, everything will be clear.
All the questions you have been asking will be answered. Watch the speeches.”On July 25, the PM in a statement compared the INDIA alliance to the British-run East India Company and even cited the terrorist organisation Indian Mujahideen as an example saying both organisations had ‘India’ in their name, but had other objectives.
Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge slammed the remark by the PM and said, “The day PM Modi links us with terrorist organisations, the home minister writes a letter seeking cooperation from the opposition parties. The gap between the government and the opposition existed for years, but now we see a gap in the government as well. Calling INDIA directionless by PM Modi is unfortunate.”
The INDIA alliance has been demanding a statement from the Prime Minister in both Houses of Parliament and also a discussion over the Manipur situation.
Modi’s party has dismissed the alliance as a grouping of “self-serving, corrupt, dynastic parties.”
On the same day the INDIA grouping was announced, BJP held a convention of its own National Democratic Alliance, along with 37 other parties. Two of the NDA’s leading allies are breakaway factions from regional parties that are with the INDIA alliance.
On Wednesday, the Opposition also moved a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha against the Modi government.
Ethnic clashes erupted in Manipur on May 3 this year and since then hundreds of people have lost their lives while thousands have been forced to take refuge in the relief camps.
The Congress had earlier demanded the imposition of the President’s Rule in the state and also the immediate removal of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh for failing miserably to control the law and order situation.
The Parliament’s Monsoon Session has witnessed stormy sessions over the Opposition’s demand for a discussion on Manipur and even AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was suspended for the remainder of the Session for his behaviour while demanding a discussion on the Manipur violence.
