Gadar 2 remains unstoppable at the box office. The film is all set to add another page to the record books by crossing the Rs 400 crore milestone in record time.
According to reports, the film starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patelin the lead will dwarf the box office collections of several Bollywood blockbusters to become one of the highest-grossing films of all time.Just 12 days post its release the film is all set to cross the Rs 400 crore mark after two smash-hit weekends at the ticket windows.Gadar 2 was off to a record start that helped it take its first-week total to an estimated Rs 284 crore. The film went on to earn Rs 20.5 crore, Rs 31.07 crore and Rs 38.90 crore on its second weekend and managed to hold on well on Monday, earning Rs 13.50 crore and an added Rs 11. 05 crore on Tuesday, thus taking its overall 12 day total to an estimated Rs 400.10 crore.
Gadar 2 has already become the highest-grossing second weekend Hindi film, beating Shah Rukh Khan‘s Pathaan by a wide margin. Gadar 2 earned an estimated Rs 90.47 crore while Pathaan earned just around Rs 63.50 crore. The film also beat the likes of Baahubali 2 (Rs 80.75 crore), KGF 2 (Rs 52.49 crore) and Dangal that earned Rs (73.70 crore).
Gadar 2 is running with houseful boards on single screens across the country, and has been creating history at the box office with each passing day despite facing a clash with Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’.
Reacting to the historic box office numbers, Sunny said in a statement, “Indians all over the world are celebrating this film, I can’t tell you how beautiful it is. I never expected it to be what it was, what it is right now. I believe that every man wants his wife to be like Sakeena and every woman wants her husband to be like Tara Singh. And, the family, the way they hold on together and fight off everything, that’s the basic USP (unique selling point) of the story.”
Interestingly, the film also became the highest Independence Day Bollywood grosser as it collected Rs 55.40 crore on August 15.
Helmed by Anil Sharma, ‘Gadar 2′ is a sequel to the hit film which was released in theatres in 2001. In the film. Sunny Deol played the role of Tara, a truck driver, while Ameesha Patel played Sakina in the film that was set during the partition of India in 1947.
The film follows Tara Singh as he ventures across the border in a daring attempt to rescue his son, portrayed by Utkarsh Sharma, who has been captured in Pakistan.
