In 2019, Sriram Raghavan and Dinesh Vijan announced that they are teaming up again after Badlapur to make a film on Param Vir Chakra recipient Arun Khetarpal with Varun Dhawan in the lead. The film was tentatively titled Ikkis, however it was pushed ahead because of Covid-19. Later Varun Dhwanstepped out as he was not sure if he could play a 21-year-old character, which delayed the film even more.Sriram too moved on to make Merry Christmas withVijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif.
Latest reports that Sriram is all set to revive the project with Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda in the lead and he will be supported by Dharmendra. Pinkvilla states that Dharmendra will be playing Agastya’s father in the film that has been a passion project for Sriram. He has been working on it since 2018 and the shooting of the film will start in the month of October, with the two actors shooting their portions over the next two months. Then the team will move forward to shoot the 1971 war sequences with Agastya. The shoot of the film will take place over six months.
The report also states that Agastya is undergoing intense physical transformation at army camps to play an army officer’s role who attained martyrdom at the age of 21. Many military personnels have been brought on board to help with research presentations.
The film marks the second collaboration of Dharmendra and Sriram Raghavan after Johnny Gaddaar back in 2007. This will also be Agastya’s second venture after Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies which will also see the debut of Suhana Khan and Khushi Kapoor.
Meanwhile Sriram is adding finishing touches to Merry Christmas which is slated to release on December 15th in Hindi and Tamil languages. Being a Tamilian, Sriram made sure to change the story and a few characters in the film so that the Tamil audience doesn’t feel like the film is just another dubbed film they are watching.
