Reacting to the shocking news of Desai’s death by suicide, Akshay took to his social media handles to say, “Unbelievably sad to know about the demise of Nitin Desai. He was a stalwart in production design and such a big part of our cinema fraternity.
He worked on so many of my films… this is a huge loss.”
Announcing the team’s decision to cancel the trailer launch event that was scheduled to take place today, he added, “Out of respect, we are not releasing the OMG 2 trailer today. Will launch it tomorrow at 11 am. Om Shanti.”
The film was finally passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), just a week ahead of its release. As per reports, the censor board awarded the film an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate and the total runtime is said to be 2 hours, 36 mins and 10 secs.
While the film awaited its certification, it was previously reported that the release date might be shifted. However, Akshay’s tweets assured that the team would be sticking to its August 11 release.
Helmed by Amit Rai, the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in the lead roles. It will face a clash with Sunny Deol‘s action film ‘Gadar 2’.
As far as the death of the noted art director goes, new reports suggest that Nitin had defaulted on a Rs 252-crore loan and a bankruptcy court had admitted an insolvency petition against his company last week.
Desai’s company, ND’s Art World Pvt Ltd, had reportedly borrowed Rs 185 crore through two loans from ECL Finance in 2016 and 2018, and troubles with repayments started in January 2020.
The art director was found hanging at the ND Studio premises on Wednesday morning, and police are currently investigating the case as a suspected suicide.
