Akshay Kumar gives up Canadian citizenship, confirms registration as citizen of India: Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani | Hindi Movie News

Akshay Kumar has forever been embroiled in controversy over his Canadian citizenship. Back in 2019, the actor had even applied for an Indian passport but the pandemic delayed his plans.
On the occasion of 76th Independence Day, Akshay announced on social media that he is finally a citizen of India. The actor shared a snapshot of his certificate of registration, announcing that he has given up his previous nationality of being a Canadian. The certificate was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He proudly captioned the picture as, “Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!” The actor had previously shared that he felt hurt when people questioned his love for India, which is why he applied for the citizenship and passport change.
Akshay Kumar is currently riding high on the success of ‘OMG 2’, which has managed to Rs 55 crore in four days at the box office. Despite facing stiff competition from Sunny Deol‘s ‘Gadar 2’, this Akshay Kumar starrer has managed to sail through. Directed by Amit Rai, ‘OMG 2’ also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in lead roles. Akshay has films like ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, ‘Hera Pheri 4’ and ‘The Great Indian Rescue’ in the pipeline.
